The Five Elements, cycles of creation and destruction, Yin-Yang balance, and the Bagua map
Every aspect of existence can be classified into one of five elements. Understanding their qualities and relationships is the key to mastering Feng Shui.
Growth, vitality, creativity
Passion, energy, recognition
Stability, nourishment, grounding
Wisdom, flow, communication
Each element nourishes and creates the next in an endless cycle of creation.
How it works: Wood feeds Fire (burning wood) β Fire creates Earth (ash) β Earth bears Metal (mining) β Metal collects Water (condensation) β Water nourishes Wood (growth).
Each element restrains another, preventing any one force from becoming too dominant.
How it works: Wood splits Earth (roots) β Earth dams Water (soil absorbs) β Water douses Fire β Fire melts Metal β Metal chops Wood (axe).
The Bagua is an energy map divided into nine areas, each corresponding to a life aspect. Overlay it on your floor plan to enhance specific areas.
Qi should meander gently through your space, like a lazy river. Curved pathways, open doorways, and uncluttered rooms support healthy Qi flow.
Long straight hallways, doors aligned front-to-back, or sharp corners (poison arrows) cause Qi to rush too fast, creating stress and anxiety.
Cluttered corners, unused rooms, and dark spaces trap Qi, leading to lethargy, missed opportunities, and a feeling of being "stuck" in life.
